My HBOT Experience

Using a soft shell , or what is sometimes referred to as a mild hyperbaric, or mHBOT, chamber is actually very simple, but depending on which chamber you are using it can be a little awkward getting started. The hardest part can be just getting in it, especially if you are by yourself.

The chambers are very easy to operate. There are essentially three pieces to be concerned with: the chamber, the air compressor and the oxygen concentrator. Climbing in the chamber can take a little bit of finesse and zipping it up can be a little challenging in the beginning, too. Eventually it will become second nature and you'll be able to get in and zip it up by yourself in no time.

One of the lessons I learned the hard way, is to always be sure that you turn the air compressor and the oxygen concentrator on BEFORE you get in and zip the chamber closed! I have been using HBOT twice a day an hour in the morning and an hour at the end of the day. It takes about 10 minutes or so for the chamber to fill completely, but you notice it within a few minutes. One time I got in and wondered why it was taking so long to fill with air only to realize that I had turned the oxygen concentrator on , but NOT the air compressor.

Another time I turned the compressor on but didn't realize for about 15 minutes, after the chamber had completely filed with air that I had forgotten to turn on the oxygen. That wasted about 30 minutes because I had to deflate the chamber which takes about the same amount of time to fill it, get out of the chamber, turn on the concentrator and then get back in the chamber zip it tight and wait for it to fill again! Fortunately I only made that mistake once for each motor :)

Inside a Hyperbaric Chamber

One of the most common questions I get is "what's it like to be inside an oxygen chamber?" Well surprisingly, it is NOT claustrophobic, the big viewing windows let in lots of natural light and the white rubber helps to make it feel even roomier. Other than my ears popping - as the pressure increases and then again at the end of the session as it decreases - I would say that the only sensation for me is just deep relaxation.

Breathing in pure and clean oxygen provides such powerful medicine to your body! It's almost like you can actually feel the oxygen penetrating down to the cells as it provides such rich nourishment that you just automatically feel better. One of the first benefits that I noticed was a tremendous increase in my mental acuity and clarity. I didn't get the brain fog or struggle with afternoon doldrums. The other early effect that the oxygen therapy started to have on me was on my skin and hair.

The other benefit was that I could use it as a form of prayer or meditation - or at least solitude - once I was inside, it was next to impossible to reach me, if I didn't want to be reached :)

One word of caution - another lesson I learned the hard way - be careful where you position the chamber. In particular try as much as possible to keep it away from windows or direct sunlight. Being inside that chamber with the sun beating down - or what is known as the solar gain - can create a very HOT environment. It is possible to by a cooling unit or make your own with a little ingenuity to have the air that is being pushed into the chamber be cooled, but in my experience that's just a waste of money if you have the chamber in a cool space away from windows in the first place.

There is one caveat to buying a Hyperbaric Chamber, because these are Medical Devices and regulated by the FDA you need to provide a prescription from a licensed physician in order to purchase. This can come from an M.D. or D.O. or your Chiropractor.
